I really hate a recipe that calls for 1 pound of sugar and all I have is a 5 pound bag! What is that? Here are some common equivalents for those days when you left the scale in your other kitchen:

1/4 lb. (1 stick) butter or margarine = 1 cup
4 oz. shredded cheese = 1 cup
1 lb. cottage cheese = 2 cups
3 oz. package cream cheese = 6 Tbl.
8 oz. package cream cheese = 1 cup
6 oz. bag chocolate chips = 1 cup
4 oz. can shredded/flaked coconut = 1 1/3 cup
1 lb. all-purpose flour = 3 1/2 cups
1 lb. cake flour = 4 cups
1 medium lemon = 2-3 tbl. juice and 1 1/2 - 3 tsp. grated peel
1 medium orange = 1/3 - 1/2 cup juice and 1 - 2 tbl. grated peel
1 pound brown sugar = 2 1/4 cups (firmly packed)
1 pound confectioners sugar = 4 cups
1 pound granulated sugar = 2 1/4 cups
